About Down Town Transport

Down Town Transport Ltd is a trading arm of Down District Accessible Transport (DDAT), which is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and recognised by HM Revenue & Customs as a charity.

Aims & Values

The Aims & Values of DDAT are to provide affordable and accessible transport across Down District and surrounding areas, thus promoting social inclusion, targeting social need and reducing rural isolation especially for people with disabilities.

Local and government transport contracts

Down Town Transport was set up as a trading arm in order that DDAT may pursue its charitable aims into the commercial sector, enabling it to bid for local and government transport contracts and provide a wider range of services, which DDAT are unable to provide as a not-for-profit company operating under section 10b of the "Buses (Section 10B Permits) Regulations (NI) 1994".

Therefore, by obtaining the necessary Road Service Licence and Road Freight Operator's Licence, Down Town Transport can provide a much wider range of services, both passenger and freight, whilst still maintaining its original Aims & Values. Any profit made from its commercial undertaking are used to expand and improve upon its services and to support DDAT in its not-for-profit undertakings, trading as Down Community Transport.
